Fire destroys camper Tuesday
Despite attempts by neighbors to douse the flames, a fire at 281 Staff Road in Brady Township destroyed a camper in the Moraine Campgrounds Tuesday afternoon.
Slippery Rock Fire Department Chief Ryan Hanchosky said the owners of the property were not present during the fire, so no one was injured. But the fire resulted in a complete loss of the camper, and it also damaged some of the surrounding woods.
A neighbor named Ron, who did not wish to provide a last name, said he saw black smoke rising from the camper and called in the emergency at 4:25 p.m., while he and other neighbors grabbed hoses from nearby campers to try to contain the flames they saw burning inside. Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after to find the camper fully involved, and contained the fire in about a half hour, Hanchosky said.
Hanchosky said he does not know the cause of the fire, but it started in the back of the camper. According to Hanchosky, propane tanks at the property possibly played a role in sparking it.
Alongside Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company, Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
