SRU's Mineo dominant in DH sweep
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock High School graduate Ricky Mineo continued his torrid start on the mound as the Slippery Rock University baseball team swept a twinbill from California (Pa.) Saturday at Critchfield Park.
Mineo (4-0) allowed only two baserunners in the first five innings and struck out nine as SRU (12-3, 3-1) won the first game, 8-1. The Rock scored eight runs in the first two innings of the nightcap and claimed a 9-3 victory.
California dropped to 10-6 overall, 1-3 in league play.
Alex Robenolt led SRU with five hits in eight at-bats for the doubleheader. He had five RBI and scored two runs. He leads the PSAC with 12 doubles, adding two more Saturday.
Luke Trueman had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI. Quentin Brown had three hits in the two games as well. Connor Hamilton had two hits, two RBI and drew three walks.
Travis Holman earned a pair of saves on the mound for The Rock, striking out seven in 5-2 innings pitched.
Mineo was the winning pitcher in the first game, Andy McClymonds in the second.
Eddie Morris homered in the second game, giving him three round-trippers in his first 13 collegiate at-bats.
SRU hosts Gannon for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday at Critchfield Park. The two teams will play another twinbill Saturday at Gannon.
SRU fell to 1-9 overall and in the PSAC West with a 6-5, 4-2 doubleheader loss at California (Pa.). The first game went eight innings.Leah Vith had three hits in the two games for SRU, including a triple, run scored and RBI.
