Part-time post made to assist collections
Butler City Council has created a temporary part-time clerical position to assist a company hired to collect delinquent taxes.
Council members unanimously voted to create the position Thursday after Mark Schuster of turnKey Taxes of Pittsburgh told them the city's records on business and rental properties were not up to date.
Council hired turnKey last year to collect delinquent earned income, business privilege and per capita taxes. TurnKey's fee is 10% of the money it collects.
Schuster said there are nearly 6,000 properties in the city, but the city's records on rental properties and other businesses were not current.
Council agreed to hire someone to work for up to three months and pay up to $4,000 in wages.
City officials said they would hire an employee through an employment agency.
