Route 8 crash sends 2 to hospitals
Two drivers were taken to the hospital after their cars collided on Route 8 in Penn Township around 4:07 p.m. Thursday.
According to Cpl. Jack Ripper of the Penn Township Police, a Ford Taurus heading northbound on Route 8 collided with a Honda CR-V that was pulling out of the Dollar General at 379 Pittsburgh Rd., entrapping the driver of the CR-V, who needed to be extracted by firefighters.
Officers blocked the southbound lane of Route 8 while Penn Township firefighters opened the vehicle using a HURST combi tool to extract the victim, and opened the road to one lane after about 10 minutes.
The road reopened completely at approximately 5:19 p.m.
Both victims had moderate injuries and were taken to hospitals by ambulances, but both were conscious after the crash. Alongside Penn Township Police and Penn Township Fire and Rescue, Butler Ambulance Service, Saxonburg Ambulance and Middlesex Township police assisted with the accident.
