SRU splits doubleheader

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s baseball team split a doubleheader with Clarion Friday at Critchfield Park, dropping the opener, 3-1, before winning the nightcap, 8-1.

Jon Kozarian had two doubles, a triple and three RBI on the day for The Rock (7-2). Joel Spishock had three hits and an RBI.

Abraham Mow scored three runs in the twinbill and hit safely in both games.

SRU starter Luke Trueman was the hard-luck loser, scattering three runs on six hits while striking out six in a complete-game effort. Clarion’s Logan Schlegel fanned six in getting the win.

Connor Hamilton had his 15-game hitting streak snapped in the opener, but delivered two hits and three RBI in the nightcap. Kozarian had two hits and two RBI.

Winning pitcher Christian Seelhorst surrendered one run while working around five walks in 4.1 innings. Andy McClymonds allowed one hit in the final 2.2 innings for the save.

Clarion moved to 2-7 with the doubleheader split.

The two teams play another twinbill at Critchfield at 1 p.m. Saturday.
