County receives small grant
County receives $50,000 state grant
Butler County received a grant of about $50,000 from the state Department of Community and Economic Development in the State Facility Closure Transition program.
The grant supports counties where employees of a closed state facility, such as a prison or government hospital, reside. While Butler County has no state facilities, 14 residents worked at the Polk Center in Venango County before it closed.
Venango County received $1.7 million of the total $5 million grant.
The grant can be used in a variety of ways, including for environmental or infrastructure needs, retraining or apprenticeship for residents, behavioral health and substance abuse treatment and others.
