Charges filed after alleged drug-filled safe found at hotel
A Butler woman has a preliminary hearing scheduled Thursday for felony and misdemeanor drug charges.
Amanda J. McCune, 27, was arrested and charged by the Butler County Drug Task Force last Thursday with two felony counts of possession with intent to sell and three related misdemeanors.McCune has been in Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail. According to charging documents, Butler County parole officers encountered McCune while looking for her friend, Brandon Dolan, who they suspected to be staying with her.The documents said that on Feb. 25, parole officers knocked on the door of a Hampton Inn room rented in McCune's name.Dolan was later arrested and charged with unrelated misdemeanor drug charges, but, according to detectives, was not in the hotel room.According to the documents, parole officers detained McCune after seeing drug paraphernalia throughout the room, and the task force was called to assist. The documents said drug packaging and three digital scales were in plain view, but there was also a black metal safe that did not belong in the hotel room. “She was hesitant to take ownership of the safe,” said the investigating detective in the affidavit. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators said they looked in the safe and found a combined 1,076 stamp bags of heroin as well as smaller amounts of methamphetamine, gabapentin and prescription drugs in McCune's name. “The safe was opened by the barrel key that McCune had on her person when detained by probation (officers,)” said the detective in the affidavit.According to documents, some of the stamp bags were concealed in hidden compartments of a Lysol can and a Morton salt container. Investigators said they also found about $3,250 in cash strewn about the safe or inside smaller containers. According to investigators, a UPMC ID, which may have been an insurance card, was also found in the safe.McCune's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday before District Judge Kevin O'Donnell.
