Center township approves new development request
CENTER TWP — Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to approve Weaver Homes’ development request — and pending a few contingencies, the developer will begin construction in the summer. A representative from Weaver Homes in Mars spoke to supervisors about the residential development planned for the area.
Supervisor Chairman Ron Flatt said the developer proposed 84 units for the planned Forest Oaks neighborhood, 52 of which will be in Center Township, while the other 32 will be in Butler Township. Once both townships approve the necessary permits for Weaver Homes, the company can being construction.
“Center and Butler have a uniform construction code, so that part was easy,” Flatt said. “We had the planning commission go over the specifics of construction to make sure all our concerns were addressed.”
Because two-thirds of the development will be in Center Township, Flatt said the township will maintain the development’s roads and sewage, so the supervisors were cautious of how the development would affect the area. Flatt said during the meeting that he opposes further development on the project because of access from Forest Oaks to public roads.
“I am deeply troubled by the access to public roads,” Flatt said. “There is not enough access to public roadways for residents.”
