Injuries appear to be minor

Two Butler firefighters suffered minor injuries while responding to a fire at an apartment complex on Center Avenue just before 3 p.m. Sunday.

Butler Fire Chief Chris Switala said all residents who were home at the time evacuated safely and were not injured.

Switala said the fire started in a top-floor corner apartment where no one was home, and the cause was “accidental due to electrical.”

Multiple fire departments were dispatched to the two-story structure.

Firefighters arrived to see smoke billowing from the roof. Shortly after, flames began shooting out windows.

The building has multiple apartment units.

Switala said the injured firefighters were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Firefighters began cleaning up the scene around 4:15 p.m.
