More than 5K residents fully vaccinated
More than 5,000 people in the county have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and nearly 15,000 have received one dose, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Wednesday.
The Butler Health System, which owns and operates Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital, is scheduling vaccinations only for people age 65 or older because demand is exceeding the vaccine supply.
When enough vaccine is available, BMH can vaccinate 1,800 people a day, and Clarion Hospital can vaccinate 600 per day, according to the health system.
BHS said it is working with Butler and Clarion county officials to assist with scheduling and vaccinating the elderly and people who are at high risk but may not have access to the Internet.
The state health department said 2,439,550 doses will have been allocated to or received by providers by Feb. 13. That number includes 175,175 first doses and 143,275 second doses being allocated this week. A total of 1,426,600 first doses and 1,012,950 second doses have been allocated in total.
Through Feb. 9, 1,401,840 doses of the vaccine have been administered to 1,084,502 people, and 317,338, or 29% of those who received their first dose, have received their second dose, according to the department.
The department report also shows a small increase in new cases confirmed and deaths.
The total number of county cases since the beginning of the pandemic increased from 8,571 on Tuesday to 8,586 Wednesday and the total number of deaths increased from 346 to 349.
Statewide, 3,378 new cases were reported Wednesday, raising the statewide total to 880,291.
Of the 2,890 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state, 574 are in intensive care. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.
The 14-day average number of people hospitalized has increased by nearly 2,800 since the end of September, and the positivity rate for the week of Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 was 8.6%.
There were 125 new deaths as of Tuesday, raising the state total to 22,745 deaths. A total of 3,725,236 people have tested negative to date.
