Herrera-Rondon sets SV record

Seneca Valley wrestlers cheer on teammate Alejandro Herrera-Rondon, who collected his school-record 157th career win via forfeit Wednesday night.
Raider wrestler gets 157th win

Seneca Valley senior 152-pounder Alejandro Herrera-Rondon won by forfeit Wednesday night, breaking the school record for career wins with 157, in the Raiders' 58-8 wrestling triumph over West Allegheny.

Herrera-Rondon is 21-0 on the season, 157-14 in his high school career.

The previous record of 156 wins was set by Louis Newell, now a red-shirt sophomore wrestler at Pitt. Newell was on hand for the Raiders' match Wednesday.

Winning by pin for Seneca Valley (16-1) were Connor Smith at 106 pounds and Dylan Chappell at 132. Chappell has 146 career wins at SV.

Oil City swept a meet from Slippery Rock, the girls by an 87-64 score, the boys by a 59-22 count.Gracie Olshanski won the 50-yard freestyle, Natalie Double the 100 breaststroke for the Rocket girls. Connor Wallace won the 500 and 100 freestyle, Kevin Bowser the 100 butterfly for the boys.

Freeport swept both matches from St. Joseph by 7-0 scores.Mark Livingston led the boys with a 650 series, including games of 231, 213 and 206. Blake Olson had a 256 game and 589 series, Ashton Guay a 203-568 and Connor Maguire a 246 game.Julia Cummings led the Yellowjacket girls with a 195-551. Amber Cepec added a 191-517.

Keith Smilowitz had two goals and an assist as Freeport remained unbeaten with a 6-1 win over Fox Chapel.Jack Mason added two goals for the Yellowjackets (6-0) while Cole Mitchell had a goal and three assists. Nico DeSanti had a goal and assist, Addison Stewart four assists.Goaltender Tyler Lang stopped 20 of 21 shots.
