Brown scores 2 more victories

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown beat the odds by driving two horses to victory in harness racing action at The Meadows the past two days.

Brown drove BB's Harley to victory at 6-1 odds Thursday. The 9-year-old gelding won a $4,900 Conditioned Claiming Pace.

He brought home Vegas Ticket at 13-1 odds in a $9,400 Conditioned Trot Friday. It was the 5-year-old gelding's 10th win in 64 career starts.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University baseball team will begin the 2021 season ranked seventh in the Atlantic Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.East Stroudsburg is ranked first in the region, followed by Millersville, Bloomsburg, Mercyhurst, Seton Hill and Charleston.SRU returns 34 of its 39 players from last season. Jeff Messer enters his 36th season as coach with a 1,016-664 career record. The Rock opens the season March 6 with a home doubleheader against West Virginia State.

ST. LOUIS — Pitcher Adam Wainwright is returning to the St. Louis Cardinals for a 17th season.The 39-year-old right-hander and the Cardinals finalized an $8 million, one-year contract on Friday, a deal agreed to earlier this week.Wainwright will match Bob Gibson (1959-75) for the second-most seasons with the Cardinals among pitchers, one behind Jesse Haines (1920-37).Wainwright was 5-3 with a 3.15 ERA last season, striking out 54 in 65 2/3 innings. He is 167-98 with a 3.38 ERA in his career, earning three All-Star selections and two Gold Gloves.

CLEVELAND — The Indians have agreed with free agent outfielder Eddie Rosario on a contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press on Friday night.The Indians know the 29-year-old Rosario well as he's spent the past six seasons with the Minnesota Twins.Rosario had his best season in 2019, when he reached career-highs with 32 homers and 109 RBIs in 137 games. During the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, Rosario batted .257 with 13 homers and drove in 42 runs in 57 games.Staff and wire reports
