Vaccinations pick up; 2 more deaths added
Two more county residents have died from COVID-19.
In addition to the deaths, the county added 60 more confirmed cases, according to Thursday's report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 7,900 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, and 299 have died from the virus.
Statewide, new cases have remained in the 5,000 range. The state added 5,664 new confirmed cases Thursday.
However, statewide deaths have been above average over the past two days. There were 260 deaths recorded statewide Thursday.
The state has averaged about 197 deaths per day in the month of January.
COVID-19 vaccine distributions also continued through this week.
According to data released by the Department of Health, Butler County as of last week had received 5,950 doses of vaccine with all but 100 of those being produced by Pfizer- BioNTech.
Butler Memorial Hospital has received 3,900 doses and UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township has received 1,950 doses.
Butler Health System officials this week said they have administered more than 3,000 vaccine doses. UPMC officials this week said they have administered about 850 first doses and 100 second doses.
Pennsylvania hospitals began receiving shipments of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine the week of Dec. 14 and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine the week of Dec. 21.
Through Jan. 20, there have been 543,329 doses of the vaccine administered statewide with 366,429 of those being first doses and 88,450 of those being second doses.
Those numbers include vaccine administration through the CVS as part of the Federal Pharmacy Partnership, which is a federal program administering vaccine to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities overseen by the Department of Health.
