No injuries in Cranberry fire
CRANBERRY TWP — A stone house along Franklin Road sustained significant interior damage Monday morning during a fire that apparently started at the lowest level.
“When we arrived, there was fire coming out of the basement,” said Scott Garing, chief of fire and emergency services for Cranberry Township.
Crews were at the scene within minutes of the initial call coming in a little before 8:30 a.m. Firefighters had flames under control in about six minutes, according to Garing.
Garing said at least one person was home when the fire broke out, but escaped the residence unharmed. No injuries were reported at the scene.
Fire crews that responded to the scene came from Cranberry, Adams, Callery, Evans City, Harmony, Marshall and Big Knob. Cranberry EMS and police also responded.
Garing said the fire call went out to the Standard Actions for Emergency Response group, with Marshall and Big Knob volunteer fire departments assisting as the closest mutual aide. This provided enough first responders to quickly get the flames under control, he said.
“Our first alarm brings an adequate amount of resources to handle most situations,” Garing said.
Fire officials didn't have an estimated cost of damages at the scene. Garing said the cause of the fire is unknown.
However, he said fires initiated by home heating systems are more common in the winter, and it is important for homeowners to be cautious.
