Car crashes on snow-covered Route 422

The morning commute for motorists was slow-go after a 29-year-old woman lost control of her sport utility vehicle and crashed into a concrete barrier on Route 422 eastbound in Butler Township. The woman suffered a minor injury. Traffic was reduced to one lane through the crash scene for about one hour.

BUTLER TWP — Rush-hour traffic on a portion of Route 422 eastbound was congested in the township for about an hour Monday morning after a one-vehicle crash that injured one person.

The wreck occurred around 6:30 a.m. on the highway about one-half mile east of the Duffy Road overpass, Butler Township police said.

The driver, Alexandria R. Scala, 29, of Evans City, was traveling east when she lost control of her 2016 Ford Explorer on the snow-covered road. The sport utility vehicle slid off the right side of the road and struck an embankment.

The vehicle returned to the road and crossed over both eastbound lanes before hitting a concrete center barrier. Scala suffered a minor injury, police said, but it was not immediately known if she needed hospital treatment.

Traffic was reduced to one lane, using the right eastbound lane, through the crash scene. The Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, Butler Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service assisted police at the scene.

A tow truck eventually arrived and towed away the SUV. Normal traffic was restored around 7:30 a.m.
