Pirates get Stokes off waiver wire
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed outfielder Troy Stokes Jr., 24, off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.
Stokes did not play at all in 2020 and underwent hand surgery in July. A right-handed hitter, he was a fourth-round draft choice of Milwaukee in 2014.
Playing for Class AA Biloxi in 2018, Stokes won a Rawlings Gold Glove award while hitting 19 home runs and collecting 48 extra-base hits. He was a Southern League All-Star that year.
The Pirates designated left-hander Nic Turley for assignment to make room for Stokes on the 40-man roster.
