Police: Woman assaulted EMS crew
A Gibsonia woman faces a hearing this week on charges she assaulted two Slippery Rock Ambulance crew members during an emergency call on the 200 block of South Main Street in Slippery Rock.
Jauhnausledyi M. Kemokai, 26, is charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault and one summary count each of harassment and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident Tuesday.
Both victims, an emergency medical technician and a paramedic, apparently were injured, but neither required medical or hospital treatment, authorities said.Slippery Rock police, who also responded to the call, arrested Kemokai after they say she became “very combative” and started striking an EMT.She also is a accused of punching and kicking both ambulance crew members. A paramedic suffered an eye injury and his eyeglasses were damaged in the incident, police said.Under state law, felony aggravated assault usually is applied to cases in which a person causes or attempts to cause “serious bodily injury.” However, any assault is considered aggravated assault if the person attacked belongs to certain designated categories.Among those categories are police officers and firefighters, teachers, health care workers and specific public officials. Also included are “emergency medical services personnel” such as EMTs and paramedics.District Judge Bill O'Donnell on Wednesday arraigned Kemokai on the charges. She was placed in the Butler County Prison and released Saturday after posting $5,000 bail, authorities said. Her preliminary hearing is set for 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at O'Donnell's office in Slippery Rock. Online court records did not list an attorney for her.
