Lewandowski has big night in NC victory

Scores 16 in win over Mars; SV boys roll behind Brooks

Butler native Dacia Lewandowski scored 16 points as the North Catholic girls basketball team downed Mars, 55-39, in the oddest of season openers.

The two teams arranged the game late Thursday night, beating the shutdown clock set by Gov. Tom Wolf of 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

All school sports will be paused after Friday until Jan. 4.

Alayna Rocco added 13 points for the Trojanettes (1-0).

Alek Johnson and Ava Black each scored eight points to lead Mars (0-1).

That’s just what the Moniteau boys basketball team did Friday night.

Kyle Pry scored 20 points in the first game of the night, a 73-43 loss to Neshannock and Mason Mershimer and Chasen Delarosa-Rugg each scored 10 in a 75-51 setback in the nightcap against Shenango at the Neshannock Tip-off Tournament.

Rocco Rice rolled a 677 series, which included games of 230 and 268 as the Butler boys swept Kiski, 7-0.

Alex Ekas had a 539 series and Marty Imhof a high-game of 192 for the Golden Tornado.

Rachael Blose had a 542 series and high-game of 192 to help the Butler girls to a 7-0 sweep of Kiski.

Lauren Bash had a 231 game for the Golden Tornado.

Freeport 7, Armstrong 0 (girls); Freeport 5, Armstrong 2 (boys) — Julia Cummings rolled a high game of 224 and a 594 series to help the Yellowjackets’ girls to a sweep.

Blake Olson had a high game of 260 to help the Freeport boys to a win. Mark Livingston had a 633 series with games of 202, 210 and 221 for the Yellowjackets.
