Cranberry church supports wreath effort
CRANBERRY TWP — The Wreaths Across America mission to “Remember, Honor, Teach,” is the foundation behind all of the organization’s efforts.
Throughout the year, local volunteers have been working to make certain that families, loved ones and heroes get honored and remembered for the holidays. Plains Presbyterian Church will be one of hundreds of organizations across the country to participate in National Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 19.
“At Plains Presbyterian Church, we take our role as a local witness of Christ and a service organization to our community very seriously,” said Ron Carter, a ruling elder of the church and a member of the Worship and Inreach/Outreach committees. “As the township’s oldest church, we are excited to participate in this program for the first time, and are committed to honoring the heroes that have been laid to rest in our cemetery.”
These efforts demonstrate the resolve of the Wreaths Across America organization and its many partner groups to tell the story of fallen veterans while expressing deep appreciation for them.
Wreath sponsorships are only $15, and can be sponsored directly at www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org/PAPCCB.
“We are extraordinarily grateful to our church family for funding all of the wreaths to be laid in our cemetery,” Carter said. “We have 46 veterans laid to rest here, and each will receive a wreath.”
Members of the Plains Church congregation will be on hand to accept the wreaths from the Wreaths Across America organization, and will place one at each monument.
In addition to the 46 wreaths for each of the veterans, seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed representing the individual branches of the military and POW/MIA service members.
The congregation and staff of Plains Presbyterian Church invite anyone in the community to attend the ceremony, which will begin at noon on Dec. 19 at the church cemetery.
