City Paper writers win media awards
Two writers at Pittsburgh City Paper, which is owned by Eagle Media Corp. in Butler, were recognized for their work in the annual Robert L. Vann Media Awards contest.
The Pittsburgh Black Media Federation recently announced the 32nd annual Vann Award winners, which honor excellence in journalism coverage of African American and African diaspora communities, individuals and issues.
Pittsburgh City Paper writers receiving awards were staff writer Jordan Snowden and contributor Tereneh Idia. Both awards were in the “Excellence in Written Journalism” category.
Snowden’s award was for an article entitled “INEZ Releases Her Debut Album” and Idia won for “Pittsburgh, the Worst Place To Be You” and other columns.
The 2020 awards dinner was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic and no virtual ceremony will be held, but honoring writers with the Vann Awards remained vital, according to a news release from the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation.
“As the pandemic unfolds, disproportionately impacting Black lives, and as the nation grapples with racial inequality, the commitment to journalism that covers the Black community is more important than ever,” the news release states.
