Drivers ID'd from Route 308 head-on crash

State police have released the names of the drivers involved in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon in Center Township that injured both, one seriously.

Colt A. Rankin, 37, of Butler was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital following the wreck around 3:25 p.m. on Route 308 just south of Holyoke Road, police said.

Rankin's injuries were described as “serious,” according to a police report. His condition was unavailable Wednesday. A young child riding in the truck was apparently not injured.

The other driver, Milann S. Karnes, 47, of Butler, reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Police said Rankin was traveling north on Route 308, also known as West Sunbury Road, when his 2019 Nissan Frontier pickup truck crossed the double, solid yellow line and struck Karnes' southbound 2017 Honda Pilot.

Rankin, who was wearing a seat belt, was trapped in his truck after the collision. Firefighters had to remove the driver's side door and lift the dashboard to get him out, said Shaun Milkovich, an assistant chief with the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company.

His passenger was secured in a child safety seat in the back seat of the car, and appeared to be uninjured.

A Butler Ambulance Service crew evaluated the child as well as Karnes, who was wearing a seat belt. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Police cited Rankin for three traffic violations, including careless driving.
