Rt. 356 improvement plans open for viewing
The public can view and comment on plans to improve Route 356 in Buffalo Township.
Officials from the state Department of Transportation will present plans for the project online Thursday, but the plans are available to view at PennDOT.gov/District10.
Visitors to the website can click on “Butler County,” then “Route 356,” to see the PowerPoint presentation documents and submit questions or comments.
The project will begin just south of Youkins Road and end at Nolf Corners, which is a stretch of about one mile, according to a PennDOT news release.
Route 356 will be widened through the central business district and commercial corridor of the township.
Included in the project are installation of turning and through lanes, signal retiming and signal coordination.
According to the plans, the Bear Creek Road intersection will be relocated and Bear Creek Road and Locust Drive will be realigned.
The Park 'n' Ride will be moved across Route 356 to the southeast corner of Route 356 and Silverville Road, according to the plans.
Traffic will be maintained throughout construction with one lane in each direction.
Construction is expected to begin in winter 2023 and be completed in fall 2024.
PennDOT is also seeking historical information on the area of the project. Those with information can fill out a form on the Web page.
