COVID-19 UPDATE 12/8: Cases drop, but four more deaths added to Butler County total

Butler County saw a dip in its daily addition of COVID-19 cases, but four residents were still reported dead due to the virus.

According to Tuesday's report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the county was listed as having 3,890 confirmed cases of the virus, 37 more than Monday's report. The report also attributed the county with 99 deaths among residents, four more than on Monday.

In a news conference Tuesday, Michael Huff, director of testing and contact tracing for the state, issued an update on testing.

“We continue to see a rapid increase of positive case counts reaching record high levels, which gives us significant cause for concern,” Huff said.

While Butler County's new additions were low on Tuesday, the department reported a statewide addition of 10,170 new confirmed cases and 169 new deaths.

As the fall resurgence of the virus continues, the Department of Health has continued to emphasize testing, including with recent regional testing sites operated by AMI.

Butler was one of five counties to have a testing site. Huff said between all five of those sites, 7,000 people were tested, before announcing those sites will be moving by the end of the week.

Huff praised the county commissioners, county EMAs and Department of Health regional officials, who made the effort possible.

“Your hard work is appreciated and valued during this pandemic,” Huff said.

State officials also continued to call for people to answer their phones when contact tracers call; continue mitigation practices; and download the COVID Alert PA phone application to help be part of halting the spread of the virus.
