Holy Sepulcher 6th graders move to virtual

Holy Sepulcher Catholic Elementary School in Middlesex Township announced Sunday that the sixth grade will be going to virtual learning for the next 14 days.

According to a news release from the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, the move was made after the school was notified that one person associated with the class tested positive for COVID-19 and there are existing quarantines due to non-school related COVID-19 exposures.

The move was made “out of an abundance of caution and in collaboration with health and safety protocols from local, state, and federal health agencies,” the statement said.

The school principal reported the case to the Pennsylvania Department of Health and notified school families.

“Please know we are taking the above action as the health and well-being of our students, staff, and families is of utmost importance to us. I know this is a challenge for families and greatly appreciate their patience, flexibility, and support as we continue to work hard to navigate through these challenging times,” said Ashley Bauer, principal.

No building closure is warranted, officials said.

The diocese said all schools continue to meet or exceed health and safety directives, including wearing face coverings, hand washing/sanitizing, social distancing, self-screening, and cleaning/disinfecting.
