2 Republicans, 1 Democrat lead for state row offices

As the nation watched Pennsylvania Wednesday and Thursday while its vote for president swung from President Donald Trump toward former Vice President Joe Biden, the state's votes for statewide offices also incrementally moved from red to blue — at least for some offices.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, currently leads Republican opponent Heather Heidelbaugh by a slim margin — roughly 130,000 votes as of 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Butler County voted for Heidelbaugh by a 25 percentage point margin, slightly less than the lead Trump had over Biden in the county.

In the race for auditor general, Republican Timothy DeFoor leads Democrat Nina Ahmad by more than 350,000 votes as of 3:45 p.m. Thursday. DeFoor's lead over Ahmad was larger in Butler than Trump's and Heidelbaugh's, with DeFoor ahead by more than 39,000 votes. Current Auditor General Eugene DePasquale, who has served since 2012, was ineligible to run again for the position due to term limits.

While wider than Shapiro's current lead, it's still a narrow race for state treasurer. Incumbent Joe Torsella, a Democrat, was behind Republican Stacy Garrity by more than 200,000 votes as of 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

Garrity's lead in Butler is almost identical to DeFoor's, with Garrity in the lead over Torsella by 38,336 votes.

The Associated Press, which has called other races in Western Pennsylvania, including those for state and federal offices, has determined the three statewide offices to be too close to call, and has not yet proclaimed a winner in any of the three races.

Pennsylvania still had nearly 350,000 mail-in ballots to be counted, according to a tally by the Pennsylvania Department of State.
