U.S. House District 15

Thompson wins another term

Republican Glenn GT Thompson won another two-year term representing the 15th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to unofficial results from Tuesday's election that do not include a count of mail-in ballots.

Thompson, of Centre County, who has served in Congress since 2009, defeated Democratic challenger Robert Williams of Indiana by a wide margin.

“Mr. Williams was kind enough to call and concede the race to me. I certainly appreciate that courtesy,” Thompson said.

He thanked voters for an overwhelming win.

“It sounds like not just a victory, but a very successful victory,” Thompson said. “I'm very appreciative to the voters to have the confidence to allow me to work for them for the next two years.”

He said he hopes Congress can come up with more COVID-19 relief.

“We're still coming out from the other side of COVID. I hope House Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi puts people before politics and gets the next round of COVID relief before the president,” he said.

Thompson said he will be the senior member of the House Agriculture Committee and the senior member of the Education and Workforce Committee.

Williams moved from California to be closer to his family. He pursued a career as an EMT and later became a continuing education instructor in the field.

“I called Congressman Thompson and congratulated him on his victory. It's a tough district for Democrats and we did our best,” Williams said.

He said he would consider another run for office after the redistricting that will take place as a result of the 2020 census.

The 15th District extends into 14 counties, including all, most or part of Armstrong, Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, McKean, Venango, Warren and eastern Butler counties.
