Hickory rolls over SR, 51-0
HERMITAGE — Quarterback Michael Henwood had over 100 yards passing and rushing by halftime Friday night as Hickory advanced to the District 10 Class 3A football championship game for the first time since 2016 with a 51-0 playoff win over Slippery Rock.
The Hornets (7-0) will face Grove City, a 30-0 winner over Fort LeBeouf in the other district 3A semifinal.
Hickory defeated Slippery Rock (2-6) for the third time this season, scoring in a variety of ways this tuime around.
The Hornets were stopped on fourth down from the Rockets' 1-yard line early in the first quarter, but dented the scoreboard shortly thereafter when Rocco Iacino tackled SR running back Ryan Montgomery in the end zone for a safety.
Hickory's lead was 23-0 by halftime as Henwood scored on a 78-yard run, threw a 20-yard TD pass to Ramarion Whitehead, and Jackson Pryts scored on a 6-yard run.
Henwood had 161 yards passing and 166 rushing in the first half.
Clay Wiesen scored on runs of 18 and three yards in the third quarter. Henwood added a 5-yard scoring run midway through the fourth.
Pryts returned a fumble 37 yards for a touchdown to conclude the scoring with three minutes remaining.
Hickory's victory was the 29th District 10 playoff win in the program's history.
