Third student tests positive at Mars Area School District
Another Mars Area student has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a release posted Wednesday on the district's website.
The district was notified Wednesday morning that a student enrolled at Mars Area High School has contracted coronavirus.
Per pandemic protocol, the district has contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Health and is implementing necessary steps for safety and contact tracing.
Those who came in close contact — within 6 feet and lasting 15 minutes or longer — with the student are asked to stand by health department regulations and quarantine at home for at least 14 days. Monday marks the end of the quarantine period, according to the release.
Students who may have had close contact with the infected student and participate in traditional class instruction will need to shift to livestream interactive (LSI) instruction.
This is the third isolated case of a student testing positive since Sept. 25, according to the district.
On Oct. 8, the district also released a statement that a family member of a primary center student tested positive for COVID-19.
Mars Area continues to offer instruction in-person, via LSI, and through the Mars Area Cyber Academy.
Also, the Karns City Area School District reported that a high school student, who was last in the building Oct. 27, has tested positive for COVID-19. The district was notified Thursday about the positive test. All people who had close contact with the student have been identified and asked to quarantine. The district is working with the Pennsylvania Department of Health to investigate the case.
