KC back in title game
KARNS CITY — It's been difficult for the Karns City girls soccer team to find a rhythm this season.
COVID-19 has been a particularly fearsome opponent, trimming the schedule and making this a season unlike any other for the Gremlins.
But like every other season since 2011, Karns City finds itself in a familiar place.
Playing for a District 9 title.
The Gremlins punched their ticket there with a dominating 4-0 win over St. Marys at Diehl Stadium on a soggy and cold Thursday evening in the District 9 Class 2A playoffs.
“It's exciting,” said Karns City girls soccer coach Tracy Dailey. “It's been a little while since we played — we only played 11 games coming into tonight. Just getting back (to the district title game) is an accomplishment.”
McKenna Martin scored three goals and assisted on the other for Karns City (10-2).
Martin, a sophomore, now has 22 goals this season.
Avah Burke scored on the other goal and Addy Christie also had an assist for the Gremlins.
“It's been hard to get into a groove this season, but tonight I felt like we got into a groove,” Dailey said. “It seemed to really start clicking tonight.”
Karns City will play No. 1 seed Clearfield for the District 9 championship. It's the Gremlins' ninth consecutive trip to the title game. The Gremlins have won eight in a row.
“We're excited for Tuesday,” Dailey said.
