20 new COVID cases reported in county
Butler County had 20 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported Thursday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School reported its second case.
The number of cases in the county increased by 20 from Wednesday to 1,075 Thursday and the number of probable cases increased by four to 124, according to the department. The death total remained unchanged at 25. The number of negative tests increased by 238 to 23,375.
The vo-tech said Thursday that parents were notified Wednesday about a confirmed case. The vo-tech announced Monday that parents were informed Oct. 2 about a confirmed case.
The Slippery Rock Area, Mars Area and Karns City Area school districts also have reported confirmed cases.
Statewide, 1,376 new cases and 27 new deaths were reported. Total cases are 167,928 and total deaths are 8,299. The statewide recovery rate remains at 81%.
In surrounding counties, Allegheny had 12,414 confirmed cases, 181,953 negative tests and 371 deaths; Armstrong had 467 confirmed cases, 7,524 negative tests and 18 deaths; Beaver had 1,944 confirmed cases, 21,153 negative tests and 18 deaths; Clarion had 116 confirmed cases, 3,457 negative tests and three deaths; Lawrence had 521 confirmed cases, 8,093 negative tests and 23 deaths; Mercer had 713 confirmed cases, 12,464 negative tests and 24 deaths; Venango had 84 confirmed cases, 4,947 negative tests and one death; and Westmoreland had 2,446 confirmed cases, 45,028 negative tests and 59 deaths.
