Scoop seeking 7-0 week

We're a bit short on games this week.

That may be a good thing for the Ol' Scoopster.

Fewer games for me to miss.

Better chance for me to get off the schneid.

I was 6-3 last week and my season record is an utterly embarrassing 24-13. That would be a good record if, say, I was trying to get into the 16-team MLB playoff field, but not as a football prognosticator.

Freeport and Butler are idle this week because of coronavirus concerns at Freeport and at Butler's would-be opponent this week, McDowell.

That leaves just seven games on the docket.

Let's go 7-0.:

Seneca Valley 21, Canon-McMillan 14 — The Raiders are coming off a tough loss last week at home against Central Catholic.Seneca Valley desperately needs a good bounce-back game Friday against Canon-Mac.I think they get it, with or without star running back Ethan West, who is day-to-day with an injury.

Mars 35, Knoch 14 — Rivalry alert! Rivalry alert! All bets are off in a rivalry.Mars knows that first-hand as Knoch has shown a penchant for upsetting its State Route 228 buddies over the years. An upset in 2017 cost the Planets a much better seed in the WPIAL playoffs and an early postseason exit. The Knights give teams fits on that grass field of theirs.Still, I think Mars has the horsepower to beat Knoch.

North Catholic 37, South Park 17 — Revenge alert! Revenge alert! North Catholic lost to South Park in the WPIAL playoffs last season, a disappointing loss in a game the Trojans felt they should have won. This season, North Catholic is rolling along on the feet and arm of quarterback Joey Prentice. This shouldn't be close.

Karns City 29, Central Clarion 25 — The Gremlins couldn't have had two more different games the last two weeks. At Brookville, Karns City struggled mightily in a shutout loss. Last week, the Gremlins rolled in a shutout win. This game may be more in the middle-of-the-road. This one is hard to predict. Anyway, going with the Gremlins.

DuBois 14, Moniteau 13 — The Warriors can run the ball and DuBois struggled to stop the run against Karns City earlier in the season. That could be recipe for success for Moniteau. Still, I think DuBois clips the Warriors.

South Side 24, Union/A-C Valley 14 — The Falcon Knights get an unusual foe this week, taking on a WPIAL team.Union/A-C Valley is coming off a 10-7 loss to Redbank Valley and would like nothing more than to get that loss out of its mind. This is a tough test for Union/ACV.

Grove City 27, Slippery Rock 23 — Rivalry alert, Part II! Rivalry Alert Part II! Grove City won the first meeting a few weeks ago.The Eagles will fly high again.Scoop just wants to be 7-0 this week.
