Woman, 22, charged in ambush

Man implicated in assault also

A love triangle allegedly turned violent when a 22-year-old Butler woman reportedly ambushed another woman she thought was sleeping with her baby's father, according to police.

Caitlin D. Davidson faces felony aggravated assault and other charges for allegedly beating and stomping another woman Sept. 17 for having sex with a man Davidson said she has a child with and who she recently separated from.

Ian D. Goodman, 18, of Butler is also charged in the case with police accusing him of conspiring to arrange the ambush against the victim.

The two were arraigned Monday by District Judge Kevin O'Donnell and were released on their own recognizance after they turned themselves in to police.

After the attack, the victim was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and treated for facial contusions, a cervical strain, a head injury and a deviated septum, according to police reports.

Police said they responded to a call around 6:45 p.m. Sept. 17 to Highfield Community Center on Highfield Road for reports of an assaulted woman. There, they found the victim bleeding from her nose with other visible face and head injuries.

The victim identified Davidson as her attacker and told police Davidson was moved to violence because she was communicating with the father of Davidson's child.

The victim told police she was approached by Goodman, whom she called a friend, and agreed to meet up. Goodman later told police that he messaged the victim to see if she wanted to smoke and claimed that he didn't know there would be an altercation.

The two and another man went to a gravel lot beside baseball fields on Highfield Road. Davidson leapt from the dugout with “at least two other unknown individuals,” according to police.

Documents state that the attacker opened the car door, punching the victim in the face and head while pulling her out of the vehicle by the victim's hair.

Davidson then demanded the victim's phone, which she used to contact her child's father, according to police. Davidson used the video calling feature, showing the man that she was kneeing the victim in the face. She told the victim to say “hi,” police said.

At this point the victim said Davidson stomped her skull while it was “firmly against the gravel parking lot.”

Davidson then ran away, according to police.

On Sept. 21, Goodman turned himself in to be interviewed and claimed that he didn't know the confrontation would turn violent, according to police.

On Sept. 24, Davidson was interviewed by police. She told police that she enlisted Goodman to confront the victim “and work out their differences.”

Davidson told police that she and her baby's father had separated two weeks before the incident and, through an ex-lover's phone, saw that he and the victim had a relationship.

Davidson allegedly told police she never told Goodman she was going to assault the victim. When she saw the victim “she just lost it and blacked out, but admitted to assaulting” the victim, according to police.

Davidson and Goodman are scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 22. Neither of them have attorneys listed.
