Butler stadium authority to create nonprofit foundation

The City of Butler Parks, Recreation, Grounds and Facilities Authority on Monday agreed to begin the process of creating a nonprofit foundation to apply for grants and raise money for improvements to Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.

Stadium manager Dean Selfridge said the authority would oversee the foundation and recommended that two authority board members serve on the foundation's board.

The foundation could raise money for capital improvements and apply for grants, he said.

Board member Diane Downs said the authority has not been eligible to apply for grants over the years because it doesn't have a nonprofit arm.

Selfridge said he will bring the state application to form a foundation to the next authority meeting for consideration.

In unrelated business, the 2021 stadium schedule has been added to the stadium website. The schedule includes games for the Butler BlueSox and Butler Iron Bucks, two concerts, one or two car cruises, and an arts festival. Selfridge said about 300 games and events have been scheduled. He said about 100 baseball games were played at the stadium in July. In August, 30 games, a car cruise and a concert were held. In September, 40 games were played.Events planned for this month include a play “Indian Summer” on Oct. 3 and 4, a Celebration of Freedom on Oct. 10, a cornhole tournament on Oct. 17, a home run derby on Oct. 18, and a cheerleading competition on Oct. 24 and 25.The authority also approved joining the Pennsylvania Municipal Authority Association for $350 a year.
