Greb wins 4th WPIAL title

Laura Greb made history.

The Knoch senior became the first girls tennis singles player to win four WPIAL singles titles.

Greb beat Nicole Kempton 6-1, 6-3 in the Class 2A final to achieve that feat.

Six players had won three WPIAL titles.

The last player to even compete in four finals was Ronit Yurovsky of Plum. She played in her fourth final in 2008.

Greb never lost a set in a final, winning all four championships in straight sets.

Greb moves on to the PIAA tournament.

North Catholic 35, East Allegheny 14 — Nick Maher returned an interception for a touchdown and the Trojans pulled away for a big Allegheny Seven Conference win.It was a battle of 2-0 teams and Kyle Tipinski got North Catholic (3-0) on the board first with a 37-yard touchdown run.Nick Maher then returned an interception for a touchdown to put the Trojans up 14-0.That didn't last long as East Allegheny returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown.Joey Prentice found Tyler Maziarz for a 25-yard TD for a 21-7 lead and North Catholic cruised from there.

Union/A-C Valley 45, Curwensville 0 — Tanne Merwin threw for 134 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 62 yards and two TDs as the Falcon Knights rolled.Union/A-C Valley (3-0) rushed for 398 yards in the win. Caden Rainey rumbled for 100 yards on just seven carries; Eli Penny 79 yards on 10 attempts; and Kylar Culbertson 77 yards on eight carries to lead the way.The Knight Falcons also were dominant on defense.Skyler Roxbury had three interceptions and Carter Terwint recorded 10 tackles.

Andrew Callihan was Karns City's top runner as the Gremlins defeated Keystone, 23-37.
