Scoop's hungry for wins
Two weeks into the season and I'm off to an uneven start.
A 7-3 week like the one I had in Week 2 isn't bad, but it also ain't good.
But, I am confident I can regroup.
On to the picks:
Butler 21, Erie 20 — I'm going with the Golden Tornado to get their first win and break a 22-game losing streak.Butler had a rough Week 2 after a promising opener. In the long run, though, I believe that setback will actually be good for the Tornado. It'll make them hungry. They'll eat Saturday in Erie.
Seneca Valley 26, Norwin 7 — It was worth the wait for the Raiders.Seneca Valley dismantled Hempfield in its season-opener, winning 38-0.The Raiders will roll again.
Knoch 18, Armstrong 12 — The Knights desperately need something to go their way this week.Knoch certainly doesn't want an 0-3 start in this shortened season. The Knights will find a way to get it done.
Mars 24, Plum 18 — I'm on the Mars' bandwagon. The Planets have a more balanced offense this season with Quinn Fuller playing well under center. And, of course, they have Teddy Ruffner. What Mars also has is a dominant defense and active linebackers who are all over the field. That makes the Planets my pick.
Freeport 20, Derry 19 — The Yellowjackets get back on track this week after a disappointing Week 2.
North Catholic 31, East Allegheny 17 — The first real litmus test for the Trojans after rolling to 55-7 and 51-6 victories the first two weeks. This one will be a lot closer, but the Trojans are the real deal this season.
Karns City 27, Brookville 24 — Speaking of the real deal ... the Gremlins are it.Karns City can throw so many things at you. The Gremlins can run with a bevy of backs. They can throw with their two-headed quarterback monster of Eric Booher and Brayden Christie. They can also play a little defense. They'll have to play a lot of defense against pass-happy Brookville. No problem.
Central Clarion 30, Moniteau 18 — The Warriors can certainly win this game with their tough-as-nails roster. But Central Clarion has a little too much.
Union/A-C Valley 34, Curwensville 8 — Perhaps the best defensive unit in the area belongs to the Falcon Knights. They held a Keystone team that scored 86 points in Week 1 to seven in Week 2.Not too shabby.
Hickory 31, Slippery Rock 19 — The Rockets are coming off a tough loss to rival Grove City and things don't get much easier this week against Hickory in this Saturday game.
Scoop would have jumped on that onside kick against the Cowboys if he were a Falcon instead of an Eagle.
