3 vehicles involved in Rt. 68 crash
BUTLER TWP — Two people were injured Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Route 68 near Oakdale Road, authorities said.
The wreck occurred around 7:30 a.m., according to Butler Township police, when one of the drivers, Joanne Smith, 63, of Butler took her eyes off the road to look at her GPS device.
Smith's westbound Subaru Forester rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was stopped in front of her, police said. The crash pushed the pickup, driven by Kaitlin Beatty, 28, of Butler, into the back of a Mercedes-Benz C300 that was also stopped.
Smith and Beatty suffered apparent minor injuries. They were taken by Butler Ambulance Service to Butler Memorial Hospital. Mohamed Milousa, 24, of Butler, who was driving the Mercedes, was not injured.
Traffic was reduced to one lane for about 30 minutes following the crash. Butler Township Volunteer Fire District assisted at the scene.
Smith's sport utility vehicle, which sustained severe front-end damage, and Beatty's truck, which had heavy rear-end damage, had to be towed.
Milousa's car sustained rear-end damage, but he was able to drive it from the scene.
Police cited Smith for careless driving.
