Butler's Singleton breaks record in cross country
CJ Singleton set a course record Saturday in winning the Red, White and Blue Invitational cross country meet at White Oak Park in McKeesport.
Singleton completed the race in 15 minutes, 46 seconds. No other runner had ever broken 16 minutes on the course. The Golden Tornado finished second among 19 boys teams, trailing only North Allegheny.
Sage Vavro finished seventh in 16:34, Raine Gratzmiller 21st in 16:07, Ben Lyons 23rd in 17:08 and Skylar Vavro 49th in 17:48.
Butler's girls placed 11th out of 21 teams. Ava Brewster, a freshman, finished 18th in 20:06, Jennifer Cichra 24th in 20:20.
Seneca Valley won the girls meet.
Rosalee Carden had nine aces, three digs, five kills and 12 assists Saturday in Karns City's 3-1 volleyball win over North Clarion.The Gremlins won the match 25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-9.Amber Maurer had three aces, six digs, three kills and three assists for Karns City. Morgan Smith contribbuted two aces and 11 kills, Shavon McCanna 13 digs, Ashley Fox four aces, 11 digs and three kills, Emma Johns seven digs, four kills and 11 assists, Natalie Hess six kills.
Freeport goalkeeper Sebastian Cordier had 11 saves, but the Yellowjackets (0-3) dropped a 4-0 decision to Mars.<b>Indiana 2, Knoch 0 —</b> The Knights fell to 0-2 and head to Mars Wednesday night.
Knoch edged Butler, 3-2, Friday. The Golden Tornado's Teddi Isherwood defeated Laura Geb 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Butler's No. 2 doubles team of Bekah Kalberrer and Ali Smith scored a 6-4, 6-3 win.
