Harrisville mayor praised for caring
I would like to recognize Gary Hughes, the mayor of our small town of Harrisville.
Gary and his wife, Mary Ann, own Penn Gold Ice Cream here in town, so he is a business owner and a local man, who is interested in the community and its people.
Before the pandemic, Gary and our former pastor worked with Slippery Rock University students in Harrisville, to get them involved in the community. Our church provided a free lunch once a month for the physician assistant and occupational therapy students. Gary would always help serve the food and provided ice cream for students and helpers.
If you are a senior citizen and your phone rings on a hot summer day or a cold winter day, it is probably Mayor Gary calling to ask if you are OK, or if you need anything.
Of all the negative issues of today, I thought it would be a change to have a positive story about our mayor.
