Monday — Police charged Derek E. Morter, 32, of Butler with being more than three times the state's legal limit for alcohol stemming from a hit-and-run crash last month on the 800 block of Center Avenue.
Morter was allegedly driving a pickup truck that reportedly hit a utility pole and a building around 7:30 p.m. July 29, and drove away. A pizza delivery driver saw the truck leave the scene, called 911 and followed the truck, according to court documents.
Police a short time later found Morter on Fairview Avenue near Center Avenue. He eventually was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which allegedly showed his blood alcohol level was 0.26 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0,08 percent is considered intoxicated.
Morter is charged with driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
6:54 p.m. Aug. 21 — At least one person was injured in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 79 south in Marshall, Township, Allegheny County. The wreck occurred when Jared E. Dean, 38, of Fombell, Beaver County made a careless lane change, according to a police report, and struck a cargo van.The collision pushed the van that Wayne H. Lieb, 65, of Pittsburgh was driving into a guardrail on the right side of the road. The report said the car continued for about two-tenths of a mile before it stopped because of apparent disabling damage, and Dean fled the scene without providing any information.The van also was disabled in the wreck and had to be towed. Lieb was taken by Cranberry EMS to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries. It was unknown if Dean was injured.Police cited Dean with more than a half-dozen traffic violations, including failing to stop and give information or render aid after an accident, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, failing to immediately remove a vehicle from the road following an accident, driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.4:48 p.m. Aug. 18 — Two teenagers were injured in a three-vehicle wreck in Oakland Township. The crash occurred when a car driven by Colby J. Snow, 18, of Petrolia struck the back of a sport utility on Route 68 east of Fared Drive.Police said the collision forced the SUV driven by Joseph E. Cooke, 44, of Harrisville into the back of a pickup truck driven by Larry P. Jones, 73, of Petrolia. Snow suffered a minor injury. One of his passengers, a 16-year-old Butler girl, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.Snow was cited for following too closely to another vehicle, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.The Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
