A Dodge Dakota pickup sustained heavy front-end damage about 4:30 a.m. Sunday when it crashed into a traffic sign and utility pole before hitting the back of an unoccupied sport utility vehicle parked at a house on Washington Street in Bruin. The driver of the truck reportedly fled. State police are investigating.

A pickup truck crashed into a traffic sign and sheared off a utility pole before slamming into an unoccupied sport utility vehicle parked at a home in Bruin early Sunday, authorities said.

The driver of the pickup, a Dodge Dakota that was totaled, reportedly fled the scene about 4:30 a.m. State police are investigating the hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning on Washington Street, but an accident report was not immediately available.

The wreck knocked out electricity to about seven homes in the area for less than an hour, said Eric Feicht, chief of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department. West Penn Power, Armstrong and CenturyLink crews all were notified.

The front of the pickup struck the back of the other vehicle, pushing it forward. The truck sustained severe front-end damage. The SUV sustained “significant” rear-end damage, Feicht said, and it had to be towed.

Authorities said that persons identifying themselves as family members of the driver later showed up asking to get items out of the pickup, but emergency crews cleared them away.

Police investigators could not be reached Sunday.
