Six will join SRU Communication & Media Hall of Fame
Six inductees will join the Slippery Rock University Communication and Media Hall of Fame for its 2020 class.
The hall of fame recognizes people who “evolved from an accomplished student at SRU into a person who has excelled at the professional level in the fields of communication and media.”
Special awards will be presented to three 2020 inductees.
A sports director for a pair of Beaver Falls radio stations, Bob Barrickman, Class of 1982, was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Terry Sullivan, who was the general manager of the WFNT student radio station from 1970-72, received the Jim Aronson Founder's Award.
And Erie television reporter Haley Potter, Class of 2020, won the Mike McHugh Undergraduate Excellence Award.
Typically the hall of fame inductees are recognized at a ceremony during SRU's homecoming weekend, but this year they will be honored as part of a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A recorded webcast will be streamed via the WSRU-TV YouTube channel and Facebook page at 6 p.m. Nov. 19.
“The SRU Communication Department has a long record of student success and this class exemplifies how students from our department became leaders in media and strategic communication fields from coast to coast,” said Katrina Quinn, professor of communication and department chairwoman.
Other inductees include: Bill Cummings, Class of 1982, an Emmy award-winning news producer in West Palm Beach, Fla.; Andrew Gearhart, Class of 2000 graduate with a degree in communication, who has been nominated for multiple Emmys; and Toye Wigley, Class of 1996, a marketing director for JPMorgan Chase & Co.
Justin Zackal is a communication specialist with Slippery Rock University.
