Kittanning man paroled as part of burglary sentence
Another man who was part of a burglary ring was sentenced Thursday to jail for his role in stealing property worth more than $10,000 from a Middlesex Township home last summer.
Anthony J. Parrotta, 28, of Kittanning was sentenced by Judge William Shaffer to a total of 15 to 30 months in jail for theft and burglary, both felonies. Receiving credit for time already served, Parrotta was immediately paroled. Parrotta must also pay more than $12,000 to the victim and more than $4,000 to an insurance company.
Co-defendant Brandon A. Dolan, 24, of Butler was sentenced May 14 to jail for conspiring to commit burglary. A third suspect has not been identified.
According to police, Parrotta and the others broke into a Browns Mill Road home July 13, 2019, and stole headphones, Bluetooth speakers, video game equipment and games, guitars, a laptop computer, a large Coke bottle coin bank that contained hundreds of dollars and a .22-caliber revolver.
The homeowner also reported he was missing a bathroom toilet plunger and brush. In all, the stolen items were valued at $10,216.
The family discovered the break-in several days later when they returned home from a weeklong vacation.
The defendants apparently were aware of the vacation plans, according to charging documents, and they knew that the home would be unoccupied.
Parrotta and Dolan were identified as suspects after police watched surveillance video showing the group bringing the coin collection to a coin-cashing machine at a Walmart in Butler Township.
The two were arrested at Dolan's residence.
During questioning at the state police barracks, Parrotta admitted to the burglary and implicated Dolan and a third man, documents said. He claimed he did not know the other man's name.
He said they went to the house in the late hours of July 6 after a concert.
Police said Parrotta admitted he and his accomplices went to the Walmart and cashed in the coins. They allegedly sold some of the other items at other stores.
Two stolen speakers and headphones were recovered from Dolan's house during the search, documents said.
