Police: Assault suspect tried to start fire in cell
A man is suspected of trying to set fire to a blanket in a holding cell at the Butler police station following his arrest for allegedly punching his girlfriend during a domestic dispute, authorities said,
George T. Honeycutt, 43, of Butler is charged with aggravated assault and arson, both felonies.
He also is charged with institutional vandalism, a misdemeanor, and harassment, a summary. He is being held in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bond
City police said they were called about 9 a.m. Friday for a reported assault at the defendant's home on the 200 block of Zeigler Avenue. Officers found the 40-year-old victim with a bloody nose and a large bruise and swelling under her right eye.
The woman told police that Honeycutt, her live-in boyfriend, had punched her in the face, investigators said. She was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital, where she was diagnosed with a nasal fracture and a facial contusion.
Police said they arrested Honeycutt after officers found him one block away from his home. While being placed in a holding cell at the station, according to charging documents, he tried to ignite a blanket with a lighter he had on him.
Officers placed him in another cell, police said, where he allegedly removed his pants and urinated outside of the cell.
Honeycutt's preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 10. Online court records did not list an attorney for him.
In an unrelated case, Butler police July 13 charged Honeycutt with a felony count of forgery, accusing him of altering a neighbor's check that he allegedly tried to use in March to pay his rent.
