County pilot lands seat on state aviation panel
The Butler County Board of Commissioners’ nominee Andrew Allen, who is the treasurer/secretary of the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport Authority Board, was selected by Gov. Tom Wolf to sit on the Pennsylvania Aviation Advisory Committee.
Allen is a pilot who flies multiple craft, including a 1946 Piper J-3 Cub. He has flown planes since he was 14 years old.
He is the owner and director of Armstrong Farms in Clinton Township, where he lives with his wife, Kristan, and two children, Drew and Liv. The farm, which hosts weddings and raises purebred beef cattle, dates back to 1816.
Butler County Commissioner Kim Geyer, liaison to the airport authority board, said Allen is the first Butler County resident to be named to the state committee.
“There is no doubt that Andrew Allen will serve both Butler County and our commonwealth with great respect and distinction,” Geyer said.
Allen said aviation is a lifelong passion of his.
“I’m humbled and excited to have been appointed,” Allen said. “Aviation plays a big role in our community. I’m looking forward to representing Butler County at the state level as we look for new and innovative ways to grow aviation in Pennsylvania and beyond.”
His three-year term begins this month.
