There will be no sports played at Slippery Rock University this fall. According to multiple sources, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference will postpone all fall sports at least through Dec. 31.
Decision will have ripple effect at SRU

No touchdowns or aces or goals or dashes to the finish line this fall at Slippery Rock University.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is expected to make an announcement at 9 a.m. Wednesday that it will postpone all conference sports through Dec. 31 because of the coronavirus pandemic, multiple sources have confirmed.

SRU has three men's sports and five women's sports that compete in the fall in NCAA Division II.

It is unknown whether some or all of those sports will be rescheduled for winter or spring.

The SRU football team is coming off one of the best seasons in school history.

The Rock went 13-1 and reached the NCAA Division II national semifinal game last year.

Quarterback Roland Rivers III became the first SRU football player to win the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is given to the Division II College Football Player of the Years.

Rivers graduated, but The Rock was still ranked ninth by Street and Smith and 11th by Lindy's Sports in those publications' preseason Division II polls.

SRU receiver Henry Litwin and defensive end Chad Kuhn received first team Preseason All-America honors by Street and Smith and Lindy's Sports.

The move is the latest domino to fall as the coronavirus pandemic sees a resurgence.

Several other Division II leagues, including the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the California Collegiate Athletic Association, have already postponed fall sports.

Last week the Ivy League postponed all fall sports until at least Jan. 1 and the Patriot League made the same decision Monday.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences recently announced its falls sports teams would only play conference games to cut down on travel.

The NCAA canceled the spring and the remainder of the winter sports seasons in mid-March when the COVID-19 pandemic surged.
