Outdoor Prom at Slippery Rock

Lexis Prementine and Nate Gill strut down the red carpet at Slippery Rock Area High School's Troy-Alan Stadium for prom Friday. Following the crowning of the prom king and queen, festivities had to be moved indoors because of storms passing through the area.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Area High School Junior-Senior Prom took place Friday, at least at first, at the high school's Troy-Alan Stadium.

The grand march ran from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and was followed by court ceremonies and the prom, which was forced indoors by stormy weather.

Because the event was supposed to take place under the lights on a football field, the theme changed from the original “Roaring '20s” to “One Last Night at the Rock.”Michelle Vinroe, a teacher at the high school and prom co-adviser with school nurse Joan Timko, said, “We are having it outside because of social-distancing concerns.”“We wanted to try to give them something special,” Vinroe said. “Our administration was great in accommodating us.”
