Man jailed after bond revoked

A Parker Township man turned himself in to the Butler County Sheriff's Office Wednesday the day after an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Raymond N. Wyant Jr., 51, was arrested July 1 for burglary and was being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of a $50,000 bond. He posted bond Tuesday, but missed his preliminary hearing that afternoon before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.

In response to his absence, Stoughton revoked Wyant's $50,000 bond, and an arrest warrant was issued for him.

But Wednesday morning this week, Wyant appeared at Stoughton's office to turn himself in. He explained to Stoughton that he missed the hearing because he thought it had been rescheduled for Wednesday. Stoughton's staff recommended Wyant turn himself in to the sheriff's office. Wyant heeded the advice and was sent back to the prison. His next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1. With his bond revoked, Wyant will be unable to be released from jail.

Wyant faces felony charges of burglary and trespass, misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, and a summary charge of public drunkenness related to a break-in at a Bruin house.

At the time of his arrest, police discovered that Wyant was wanted on a May 22 warrant for charges stemming from the fatal overdose death of an Armstrong County man in 2017.

That warrant was issued to state police May 22 in connection with the overdose death of Joseph L. Evankovich, 54, a Butler native who was found dead Nov. 6, 2017, at his home in Perry Township. Wyant is charged with drug delivery resulting in death — the equivalent of third-degree murder under state law.

He also is charged with delivery of a controlled substance and aggravated assault, both felonies. For those charges, he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 12.
