The Allegheny Health Network announced Thursday that Dr. John S. Lee has been appointed as the organization’s new chief medical information officer.
Lee succeeds Dr. Robert White, who announced his plans for retirement earlier this year. White will stay with the organization through the end of the year to help with the leadership transition, according to the announcement.
Lee came from Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare, based in Naperville, Ill., where he has served as chief medical information officer since 2016. He earned his medical degree from the Loyola University of Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine, and completed residencies at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
“AHN’s commitment to investing in a robust, leading-edge IT strategy and system that drives better health care value, outcomes and experiences for patients has been extraordinary,” Lee said. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help build upon the program’s success and to shape its future course as part of a blended health and wellness enterprise.”

Walmart said it reached its veteran hiring goal by signing up more than 265,000 veterans as associates, including more than 9,000 in Pennsylvania, according to company officials.
Walmart first set out to hire veterans in 2013 with the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment. The original goal was to hire 100,000 veterans by the end of 2018 but they expanded the goal to 250,000 by the end of 2020, according to the announcement.
The initiative expanded to help broaden employment opportunities for military families with the Military Spouses Career Connection. This added initiative has led to the company hiring more than 31,000 associates and the company continues to hold hiring preferences for spouses of people in the military.
“For more than 15 years, Walmart has provided me with an opportunity to pursue a career that utilizes my training and experience in the Army, grow professionally and make a positive impact in my community,” said Michael del Rosario, a Walmart general transportation manager at the company’s distribution center in Woodland, Pa.
