Series performers for 2021 named

Grace Kelly is a singer, saxophonist, songwriter, composer and bandleader, who has rocked the jazz world. She will be accompanied by the Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble for a performance April 10 as part of SRU's Performing Arts and Lecture Series for 2021.
Music, dance, art and comedy featured at SRU

The Performing Arts and Lecture Series for 2021 at Slippery Rock University will include an expanded variety of shows in the renovated Miller Auditorium.

The auditorium is part of the university’s ongoing $29.2 million Performing Arts Center renovation project that started in the summer of 2018.

The project was delayed due to the COVID-19 shutdown.

With construction again underway, the building is scheduled for completion in October.

The 753-seat Miller Auditorium will open with a permanent wood stage and 242-square-foot orchestra pit.

The six shows scheduled for the 2021 season include:

Troubadours: A Tribute to James Taylor and Carole King, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 13.

The show celebrates iconic music by King and Taylor by replicating the duo’s performances at the world-renowned Troubadour Club in California.

Artrageous, 7:30 p.m., March 19.

Artrageous is a troupe of 11 artists, singers, dancers and musicians that combines visual art, song, dance, humor and interaction in a frenzy of movement and color.

Grace Kelly, 7:30 p.m., April 10.

Kelly is a saxophonist, singer, songwriter, composer and bandleader, who has rocked the jazz world with sold-out concerts, 13 albums and a resume that includes performing at the Hollywood Bowl.

She will be accompanied by the SRU Jazz Ensemble.

Ailey II, 7:30 p.m., April 24.

Under the artistic direction of Troy Powell, Ailey II is an American modern dance company affiliated with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. The group is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of emerging choreographers.

Capitol Steps, 7:30 p.m., Sept. 17.

Capitol Steps is a theater company that performs sketch political comedy. The troupe began in 1981 when a group of U.S. Senate staffers set out to satirize the people who employed them through song parodies and skits. Capitol Steps has recorded more than 35 albums, including its latest, “The Lyin’ Kings.”

The Nunziata Brothers: A Broadway Holiday, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 3.

Acclaimed singer-songwriters and Carnegie Hall headliners Will and Anthony Nunziata will sing their renditions of holiday favorites using their soaring tenor voices and soulful harmonies, accompanied by Broadway pianist Eugene Gwozdz and the SRU Jazz Ensemble.

Tickets are available in different packages or individually. Tickets are reduced for youths age 17 and younger; senior citizens 62 and older; and SRU students.
