SAXONBURG — Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Concordia has replaced the 2020 Fishing Derby for Kids with a series of Kids' Fishing Days for children ages 14 and younger at Saxony Farm Estates, Addy Boy Lane.

The events will be on three Saturdays — July 18, July 25 and Aug. 1 — with two time slots each day, one from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and the other from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Registration is required, and registrants will be asked to select a date and time slot. Each session will be limited to 100 guests to ensure proper social distancing.

Free refreshments and bait will be available. A limited number of fishing poles will be on hand, but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Make sure to take lawn chairs or blankets as well.

McCalmont Road in southern Butler Township will close from Monday through Wednesday for work on the railroad bridge, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.The closure will extend from Hazelcrest Lane to Eckstein Road. A detour will be in place.PennDOT officials ask motorists to slow down while driving in work zones.

Bishop David Zubik will livestream a memorial Mass to honor all local Catholics who have died during the coronavirus pandemic.The Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday. It can be viewed at https://bit.ly/DoPUTube.“This memorial Mass allows everyone who has grieved without a funeral to pray together for the souls of their loved ones and to receive comfort in God's promises of mercy and salvation,” Zubik said in a news release from the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.The idea for the memorial Mass came from the staff at the diocese' Catholic Cemeteries Association, which provides advance funeral planning, oversees diocesan cemeteries, consoles the grieving and arranges prayers for the dead.
